Yesterday was a very busy day, and this post is about a “day in the life” of a CEF local director (me). Granted, not every day is this busy, but you would be surprised at how many are. I am NOT writing this to try and build up my image or status in your mind, not at all. I just thought that you, my random and adventuresome readers, might find it interesting. Now, onward and upward!
Let’s handle this through a few bullet points and photos, both will follow the order of the day.
Around 6:20am… I headed out to go to a men’s gathering in Jackson at Englewood Baptist Church. This is where Gary Taylor leads a long-standing Maximum Man gathering. I have been a part of this diverse group of Christian men for seven to eight years.
8:18am… I arrived at my office to help one of our local committee people get setup to take a CEF online course called TCE-1 which stands for Teaching Children Effectively, Level-1. This is an outstanding 30-hour course that focuses on evangelism and children. I also made a couple of important phone calls to a friend of mine who works for the TBMB.
10:45am… I headed out the office door, driving to Paris to help with a CEF duty that I was recruited to handle. I stopped briefly in McKenzie to grab a burger and drink for the road.
1:15pm… pulled into the parking lot of Fairview Baptist Church in Paris to do a CEF evaluation of a class practicum for a colleague there. This was a CEF “party club” with a group of around 14 children and the CEF team that presented it. It was fun and they did a good job.
3:10pm… I hit the road again for about an hour and twenty-minute drive back to Jackson. On the way, I made a phone call (hand’s free Bluetooth, of course) to another fellow that I know in the TBMB to check in with a potential agreement between CEF and TBMB. It was good catching up with this brother and we had an awesome discussion.
4:40pm… I got back to Jackson in time to check in at Thelma Barker Elementary School to have a quick discussion with the YMCA aftercare director there. We are in the process of developing an agreement with the Y to offer a Good News Club at Thelma Barker. Lord willing, we will get it started within a couple of weeks.
5:15pm… I got back to my office to do a few end-of-the-day tasks and get ready to go to a home group that is hosted at a good friend’s home in north Jackson.
6:15pm… arrived at the Gathering where a diverse group of believers meets on most Thursday evenings to worship together, listen to a presentation of the Word, fellowship, and enjoy a little food. Ken, love you brother… you did an awesome job of encouraging us with God’s word last night. I also had an opportunity to offer some encouragement to a dear sister, Kate. Life is chaos, God is the firm foundation, Jesus is the anchor… you got this.
10:15pm… got back home and relaxed a bit before bedtime. A long but blessed day for a portly older guy! Right?
I am sure that you have heard the old adage, “Be careful, it’s a jungle out there.” That is such a true statement… for many reasons. Life can sometimes seem like an old Tarzan movie. You are the strong man… whacking your way through the underbrush, watching out for the dangers that lurk around every…
So, it begins… yesterday, March 8, 2015… we officially started a new Mission Jackson ministry site on Hollywood Drive. The day was overcast and a little cool, but the Lord blessed us with a window of opportunity to meet on-site. The location of this new outreach effort is centered near Brookfield Apts. and Guardian Courts….
Although the radical warped culture has demonized the police in recent years, We should shoe them proper respect for what they do for us. This hits especially close to home with me because I was raised by a policeman. My dad, Ralph Nicholas left his family farm as a young man, served in the Army…
Sometimes, it is hard to clearly hear the voice of God in this life. Maybe you can relate to this situation… this distraction… this encumbrance to following God in pure child-like faith. Maybe you have never tried. I can honestly tell you that there are times that it seems as if God is very very…
Last night at the Gathering, our brother, Bobby Lewellen, shared the Word with us. His focus came from Ephesians 6:10-18 and a discussion about the armor of God. He also touched on some verses in Matthew to start his devotional thoughts. I would sum up Bobby’s message as an encouragement to put on the full…
Please read these verses and understand that if an unborn child was made by God Himself and you believe that God “is,” well… shouldn’t that innocent life have the right to live and reflect the image of his or her Creator – just as YOU do? For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me…
