Dawn and I just returned from a vacation to the Great White North… Canada 🙂
We went with our seniors group from Englewood Baptist Church. This is actually the third time we have taken advantage of these bus trips. As we have gotten older, this is a great way for us to plan a get-a-way. The itenerary is set, the lodging is ready, and some of the meals are covered too. Plus, we are led by a very capable EBC staffer, Dan Morris. Dan, if you ever read this, I’m not trying to butter you up brother. You do an excellent job and Dawn and I appreciate your steady, even-handed approach to managing a big group – Bravo!
Ok, now for a short synopsis and a few pics. I took a LOT of photos but for this article, I am going to keep it concise and make mention of the highlights. I may get into a more detailed accounting later. So… here is the bulleted version:
Oh my, we made a stop at Buc-ee’s in Kentucky.
We visited the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
We passed through these states as we traveled… Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and Michigan.
We spent the majority of a day visiting the area around Niagra Falls, seeing it up close on a boat tour, from the banks, and even at night when they light the falls with various colors. I had not thought about it earlier but there were two distinctive fall areas that we saw. One American and one Canadian.
We visited a historic church that was part of Harriet Tubman’s underground railroad operation. This was a powerful experience and we learned a lot from a lady who is a member of the church and tells tours about their church and the life of Mrs. Tubman.
We visited a few random but interesting locations as we traveled… monuments, lavender fields, historic villages, Castle Loma, and Frankenmuth (MI).
We spent most of a day in Toronto, Canada. While we were there, we went up in the CN Tower which gave you an awesome view of the city.
Now, here are a few pics that show some of the variety of experiences that we had during the week we were away. We were blessed to see some of God’s great creative beauty and some of man’s engineering marvels.
Over the last few months, five or six, I believe, I have met with a small group of believers to pray and fast for a day each month. We try to get together near the first Saturday of each month. I have held the fast most of those months, but not every month. A couple…
Just a few days ago, I hit a milestone in this life. I turned 65 years old. In some ways, it was just another day as I went to work as usual, dropping by a clinic to have blood drawn, then driving to Trenton to meet with a pastor about a possible partnership to reach…
A few days ago, I was blessed to help in a cooperative effort to serve the residents who live at Allenton Heights. It is a residential area managed by the Jackson Housing Authority. I was not “officially” representing CEF of Greater Jackson, but some of our committee members and friends helped in the event. Folks…
Earlier this week, Dawn and I took a little trip to Kentucky to the Creation Museum. This trip had two purposes. One was to simply get away for a few days for some R&R. The other reason was to celebrate Dawn’s birthday. If you don’t know this about my dear wife, she was born on…
Yesterday was a very busy day, and this post is about a “day in the life” of a CEF local director (me). Granted, not every day is this busy, but you would be surprised at how many are. I am NOT writing this to try and build up my image or status in your mind,…
Here is a short video clip from the backyard of our current abode where little Sassy enjoys running and playing. I am not sure if this is a common thing for little dogs but our dog back home, Candy the Eskie, did the same thing when she was a younger pup. They get excited and…
