Just a few days ago, I hit a milestone in this life. I turned 65 years old.
In some ways, it was just another day as I went to work as usual, dropping by a clinic to have blood drawn, then driving to Trenton to meet with a pastor about a possible partnership to reach kids in his city with the Gospel. Then I drove to Milan, the Medina area, and on to my office in Jackson. The normality of the day is reflected in the photos below as I snapped a few pics to reflect my mood.
In another way, turning 65 is a sobering reminder that life is fleeting and it requires introspection along the way. What have I accomplished thus far? What are my relationships like with family and friends? Will I really retire sometime in the coming years… that is, of course, if Jesus doesn’t come back first. To heighten this reality, I learned of the passing of a dear cousin in the Chicago area. I was not blessed to see Tina that often, but I always felt a special kinship with her. I am glad to have an assurance (in my heart) that we will see one another again someday on the other side of eternity.
Yessir… it is a lot to think about, but since I haven’t posted on my blog in some time, it seemed fitting to say a few words about the experience and give a heartfelt “thank you” to everyone who wished me a happy birthday on social media and in real life. I appreciate you. To my family… Dawn, Josh, and Heather, thank you for taking me out for a “cheat meal” at the Mexican restaurant on Main Street… and for the cards and gifts. I love you all 🙂
