Last night, I was blessed to join a group of brothers and sisters in Christ at the home of mutual friends. Dr. Abraham and Pheba Santhosh invited us into their home to break a fast and pray together for whatever God had impressed upon us. We had fasted during the day to heighten the emphasis of praying as described in several verses of scripture… such as: Joel 1:14, Matthew 6:16-18, Matthew 9:15, and Acts 13:3.
I must confess that fasting is not a part of my typical Christian existence and I should engage in it more often. Although, I have prayed and fasted many times at random occasions to bring focus to ministry or specific outreach efforts. I was glad to join in with this group as we sought to get serious about the times in which we live in. For the Christian – at least the ones who are paying attention – the times are getting darker with the prevailing culture seeking to dismiss us and codify open sin as norm. My goodness, many people these days even revel in their wickedness. Yes they do. In my days upon this globe, I have never seen so many women, even some who confess Christ as Savior, blindly fight for the right to murder their own children. Indeed, that is but one example of the spiritual blinders Satan has fitted to many of our citizens. God helps us.
At least for this small gathering of concerned believers, know that we prayed for our nation last night. We prayed for our president and those who advise him. We prayed for other government officials who have such great influence over our daily lives. We prayed for Jackson, TN and surrounding communities. A dear brother, who happens to be a medical doctor, prayed passionately for COVID-19 and all its hideous variants to be nullified and be pushed back into the darkness from whence it came. We prayed for the world and Ukraine in particular where I have 40 fellow CEF workers who have been upended as they still try to minister to their communities.
We also prayed for each other and broke our fast to enjoy a time of food and fellowship. It was a beautiful way to conclude a day of focusing on the needs of our community, state, and world.
