Yesterday was a very busy day, and this post is about a “day in the life” of a CEF local director (me). Granted, not every day is this busy, but you would be surprised at how many are. I am NOT writing this to try and build up my image or status in your mind, not at all. I just thought that you, my random and adventuresome readers, might find it interesting. Now, onward and upward!
Let’s handle this through a few bullet points and photos, both will follow the order of the day.
Around 6:20am… I headed out to go to a men’s gathering in Jackson at Englewood Baptist Church. This is where Gary Taylor leads a long-standing Maximum Man gathering. I have been a part of this diverse group of Christian men for seven to eight years.
8:18am… I arrived at my office to help one of our local committee people get setup to take a CEF online course called TCE-1 which stands for Teaching Children Effectively, Level-1. This is an outstanding 30-hour course that focuses on evangelism and children. I also made a couple of important phone calls to a friend of mine who works for the TBMB.
10:45am… I headed out the office door, driving to Paris to help with a CEF duty that I was recruited to handle. I stopped briefly in McKenzie to grab a burger and drink for the road.
1:15pm… pulled into the parking lot of Fairview Baptist Church in Paris to do a CEF evaluation of a class practicum for a colleague there. This was a CEF “party club” with a group of around 14 children and the CEF team that presented it. It was fun and they did a good job.
3:10pm… I hit the road again for about an hour and twenty-minute drive back to Jackson. On the way, I made a phone call (hand’s free Bluetooth, of course) to another fellow that I know in the TBMB to check in with a potential agreement between CEF and TBMB. It was good catching up with this brother and we had an awesome discussion.
4:40pm… I got back to Jackson in time to check in at Thelma Barker Elementary School to have a quick discussion with the YMCA aftercare director there. We are in the process of developing an agreement with the Y to offer a Good News Club at Thelma Barker. Lord willing, we will get it started within a couple of weeks.
5:15pm… I got back to my office to do a few end-of-the-day tasks and get ready to go to a home group that is hosted at a good friend’s home in north Jackson.
6:15pm… arrived at the Gathering where a diverse group of believers meets on most Thursday evenings to worship together, listen to a presentation of the Word, fellowship, and enjoy a little food. Ken, love you brother… you did an awesome job of encouraging us with God’s word last night. I also had an opportunity to offer some encouragement to a dear sister, Kate. Life is chaos, God is the firm foundation, Jesus is the anchor… you got this.
10:15pm… got back home and relaxed a bit before bedtime. A long but blessed day for a portly older guy! Right? 😉
I sincerely pray that this new year will bring you peace, joy, and grace in Jesus. I pray that we will all become healthier and more focused on the things that are important rather than the frivolous things that bombard us in the culture war. Trust me, I DO understand that the culture war is…
On this leg of the trip, we visited the Corn Palace, a truly unique and interesting place. Then, we went to Wall Drug Store, which was a huge gift shop and touristy destination. Leaving in the sunshine… Mitchell, SD… Rapid City, SD
Yes… if you are actively engaged in the battle to advance the Gospel in the world, you will get beaten up occasionally. Honestly, you will probably get knocked down… maybe even knocked out now and again. It is no coincidence that the writers of the New Testament often used military references to describe Gospel engagement….
Yesterday, October 22nd of 2022, we had a family reunion. This was a gathering of people from the Nicholas family, trickling down from Grandaddy W.B. Nicholas. He was my daddy’s daddy and at this reunion, two of his children were present… Aunt Jane Wall and Aunt Gracie Fewell. The rest were other descendants and spouses,…
This post will focus on our visit to the Amish country that is near Lancaster, PA. I’ll also post a gallery of photos below. We actually visited the Amish two different days. One was later in the evening where we visited the school house replica in the images below and watched a very interesting multimedia…
Tonight, I was blessed to visit Davidson Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church for a wonderful “first night” revival service. The pastor there, Corey Cummings, invited me and all our Gathering friends to attend. The revival preacher was Corey’s pastor from his youth, Bro. Don Franks. The evening started with a lovely add-a-dish meal that was awesome!…
